Rangers The Parks and Countryside service of Leeds City Council has a Ranger Service that encourages local community involvement and delivers education sessions on important sites such as Chevin Forest Park. A wide range of people benefit from ranger-led activities and events that focus on conservation issues, caring for and teaching people about their local environment.

Environmental Education:
Production and delivery of tailor-made sessions focusing on trees, ponds, minibeasts, habitats or
other subjects that tie in with the school curriculum.
Specific walks or talks focusing on particular subjects such as birds, bats, fungi, history or other items
           of interest.

Practical conservation tasks:

Habitat management in a whole range of habitats doing anything from thinning and removal of
           invasive species to habitat creation.
Improving access and interpretation on sites by installing steps, stile, signposts and interpretation
           panels.
General site improvements such as Dry Stone Walling, fencing, hedge laying, path repairs etc.

Flora and fauna surveys:

Working alongside groups to identify the species which inhabit an area.
Passing these skills on with workshops and walks / talks.

Working with communities and Friends of Groups:

Leading walks, events, talks and practical sessions for a wide range of groups from the scout
movement, to local community and business groups.
Supporting Friends of groups with a wide range of site-based activities and fund-raising.

Organising activities and events for the general public:

Every year a series of walks, open events and other activities are laid on for the general public.
Behind the scenes there is much preparation for all these events and activities, including promotion of
the service to a wider audience.
