World Heart Day/City Step Challenge – 29th September 2020

Leeds city Council, Active Leeds are excited to be partnering up with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) for World Heart Day on Tuesday 29th September 2020.

They tell us, ‘Here’s a few more details about the day of action and activity planned for World Heart Day (Get Leeds Stepping) Tuesday 29th Sept – 9am -9pm – We will be counting the collective steps we log as a City and raising awareness and funds for important British Heart Foundation research and projects.

Covid-19 has dominated 2020 and is having a devastating impact world-wide. Recent research has suggested that people with heart and circulatory disease are at a higher risk of complications from COVID-19. Which means more people than ever now need the BHF to continue to provide vital support and fund life-saving research.

The City Step Challenge is a way to get more active this September and moving a little more each day can help to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a healthy heart. Research has shown that a ¼ of people have exercised less through lock-down and 3 in 10 people admit to walking less. Here in Leeds, Active Leeds have an ambition to be ‘Best City to be Active In’ and we want to support all residents to get active and stay active. Join the City Step Challenge and make your steps count! From 9am to 9pm on World Heart Day, we want you to get stepping more than you have stepped before. May that be 2,000 steps, 10,000 or 20,000, we want the people of Leeds to help the BHF step the way forward for heart research and together… Let’s see how far Leeds can step on World Heart Day! Can Leeds become the most active city?’
