Bryophyte Walk 2026
15/02/2026
Want to learn the difference between a sphagnum and a haircap moss? Or a crestwort and a featherwort?
If so, join the Friends of Chevin Forest on Sunday 15th February 2026 for an exploration of the bryophytes living in Chevin Forest Park!
There are over 1000 different species of bryophytes in the UK, including mosses, liverworts and hornworts.
Our bryophyte walk will be guided by ecologist Gordon Haycock. If you have your own hand lens please bring it along, we will also have some to share out on the day.
We will meet at the East Chevin Quarry Car Park (location on Google Maps is here) at 10:30 am and the walk will be completed by 12:30 pm. Please wear sensible footwear as the terrain is uneven, and layers of clothing suitable for the weather. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
Sign up via Eventbrite if you would like to attend: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/friends-of-chevin-forest-bryophyte-walk-2026-tickets-1980889649265?aff=oddtdtcreator
